Colorado lawmakers are one step closer to passing SB25-003, a sweeping gun ban on semiautomatic rifles, shotguns and pistols.
Last Friday, the Colorado Senate passed SB25-003. This bill initially called for a ban of virtually any semiautomatic firearm with a “detachable magazine.” But as it moved through the Senate, it was softened up with some amendments, including exceptions to allow for hunters to keep buying some semiautomatic firearms, such as semi-auto shotguns for waterfowl hunting, etc. The exception is for people who complete a training course to be regulated by and offered through the state.
The exemption, tacked on by Democrats in an effort to appease Gov. Jared Polis, represents a significant watering down of the measure. But proponents of the legislation felt it was needed to advance Senate Bill 3. The bill is now before the Colorado House, and if (when) it passes and reaches the desk of Gov. Jared Polis, the governor has signaled he will sign the bill into law. If signed, it would take effect in September.
To qualify for the exception, a gun purchaser would have to be vetted by their local sheriff through a process similar to what’s required to obtain a concealed carry permit. Then, if they already have a hunter safety certification, they would have to complete a roughly four-hour training course to be offered by a third-party vendor. Without a prior hunter safety certification, a purchaser would have to complete a dozen hours of training over two days.
The course would focus on gun safety and specifically semiautomatic weapons. It would also include information about gun deaths associated with mental illness and Colorado’s red flag law, which lets a judge order the temporary seizure of guns from someone deemed an imminent risk to themselves or others. Eligibility for the exemption would be contingent upon people receiving a score of at least 90% on a test at the end of their training course. Sheriffs would issue cards verifying completion.
Renewal, within five years of purchase, must be completed through an extended safety course. That includes lessons in such things as safe gun storage and “victim awareness and empathy,” according to the bill.
What utter nonsense. This is what happens when Colorado is overrun by democrats who were tired of overregulation in California and decided to migrate here to set up the same type of overregulation they just left. Stupid much? Yeah. Once you get through the democrats cover-story, SB-3 is nothing more than as a severe violation of our Second Amendment rights and essentially an effective ban on semi-autos. If Gov. Polis signs this Bill into law, you can bet it will be challenged on a Second Amendment basis, and hopefully it won’t pass the test.
Is this a vote for the most Insane hunting state in the Union? Who takes the time to figure out ways to strip from us our right to bare arms? I guess it’s the same people that want to eliminate one of the most efficient, cagey predators alive. The Coyote. Whether a rural or urban environment, the Coyote is a master at catching and killing dogs, cats, wild small game and of course deer and elk young.
So please give the auto weapon bill some common sense thought? CO does not need to become another insane CA.
Thank you.
Colorado is a beautiful state that has been destroyed by liberal transplants. It became Colofornia a long, long time ago.
Apparently colorado is full of idiots. Who would leave a over regulated state to move there life states away and try to set up the same crap they moved away from. Half of colorado was populated when the state was losing people at ridiculous rates.homes were cheap and homes were abandoned and many in foreclosure. That’s when your modern population boom took place.not just people from California, but from all around the US. Amazing how your predjudice and jealousy continues against people who hunted colorado before half you fools ever moved there. I have dealt with your California people are crazy since I started hunting there in the 70’s. Funny most of your women love the California men. In california we deal with stupid people like you at disneyland, our beaches and historic towns. Amazing how many colorado people I see driving my state. Sorry you have long winters. Makes you all a little bitter when your freezing and it’s in the 70’s here. Govenor of California signs stupid laws, not the citizens. If you hate democrats then you hate half the country including more than half your own state. Predjudice and discrimination is everywhere in this country. Beautiful state you have, lots of fantastic people but your continued mention of your dislike for your fellow Americans makes your state ugly. Grow the he’ll up and realize we all share this planet and country. You are all immigrants that.came here from other counties. The true natives don’t like you and your built in racism. Hating a state because of government policies is as dumb as it gets. Grow up! Sounds like you have created your own class of anti gun haters and anti hunters and it’s definitely not californians. Good luck with the ignorant fools who are taking over your state. You let this crap happen,it’s not the tourist. We keep so many of your businesses afloat. I’ve never seen one say we don’t accept cash from cali.
When they are allowed to shop around or pick their judges it’s a very costly battle. Not saying you won’t win it just takes every dime you have to win without any monetary recourse. Good luck and I would contact Pam Bondi for assured success.
Mental health is a real issue and disease that needs to be addressed and not covered up with HIPPA regulations. Start with evaluating the mental status of the politicians in Colorado and stop blaming the gun for pulling the trigger. Attacking the 2A first and possibly taking away knives, taking away bullets and follow that up more legislation by taking away trucks from hunters could be their next agenda because all of those tools are used in hunting. The real agenda is to not just to take away the gun by regulation but to eliminate the “Hunter”. All the above tools used in hunting can all kill in the wrong hands by anyone! Where will they stop?
Evaluate the person who has true mental issues and remove their guns not the normal or average hunter who want’s to humanly kill their target for harvest and also enjoys target practice to be proficient at their sport is not the problem!!!
