Wyoming wolf hunt areas 1 and 2 harvest quotas (4 wolves) were met in the first few days of the season and both areas are now closed.
If you’ve been following along with the saga of the Mollie’s Pack from Yellowstone National Park, you’ll know that the unique pack of wolves denned in the Shoshone National Forest this past summer and not in YNP. This caused quite an uproar in my neck of the woods with animal rights activists setting a bounty on hunters and hunters vowing to wipe out the Mollie’ wolves.
Neither happened. The Mollie’s pack moved back into YNP before the hunt began and of the four wolves legally taken in the short hunt, none were reported to have been members of the Mollie’s pack.
An interesting take on this is that wolf lovers have wolf hunters to thank for the preservation of the Mollie’s pack.

In a nutshell, because Wyoming wolf hunters were very effective at filling the four wolf quota, the season closed before the Mollie’s Pack had a chance to rove back into the Shoshone National Forest and be fair game.
It seems all that preseason hullabaloo was for naught. At least for this year, and in Wyoming. If the Mollie’s wanders into Montana they may not fare as well.
They were saved? Too bad, maybe next year.
