WY: Grizzly Bear Killed & Left

A grizzly bear was apparently shot and killed in a remote part of northwestern Wyoming and officials are seeking information regarding the incident. The bear was found deceased with an apparent fatal gunshot wound but there is no other information available. If you have details surrounding this grizzly fatality along Wyoming’s Deep Lake Trail in Park County, Wyoming please contact authorities at this number 307-527-7125.

As states like Wyoming work to delist grizzlies and return management to state Game and Fish agencies, incidents such as this can serve as roadblocks. That said, they also point to the full recovery of grizzlies in the Lower 48 and people’s frustration with current management practices. However, killing and leaving a grizzly to rot is something we here at Eastmans’ DO NOT condone.

Was this a case of self defense? That is quite possible. Could this grizzly fatality be a case of mistaken identity for a legal to harvest black bear? Perhaps, as the bear was found during Wyoming’s spring black bear hunting season. More information is needed to determine the circumstances surrounding this grizzly bear fatality.

Whatever the case may be, this incident serves as yet another reminder that best practices in grizzly bear country should be observed at all times.

Again, if you have information about this incident please call 307-527-7125.

  1. Sure would be nice if Eastmans would start condoning the delisting of g rizzlies. There is not enough effort or time spent in doing so.
