More Money For Western Big Game Migration Habitat

In recent years a huge focus has been on migration corridors for western big game from a federal and state agency level, as well as from our own camp (click here to watch our Mule Deer Migration film). Thankfully, there is more funding coming for western big game migration habitat and the focus on migration corridors wasn’t a fleeting moment in a political narrative and then forgotten as so often happens in landscape-scale wildlife management.
$500 million from the Farm Bill is allocated to joint projects between the NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service) and FSA (Farm Service Agency), including $40 million going directly to western big game migration habitat. The funneling of this money is through the Working Lands For Wildlife (WLFW) program.
USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Farm Service Agency (FSA) will coordinate this work through WLFW, which focuses on voluntary, locally-led efforts that benefit wildlife and agricultural communities…”allowing a continuation of an existing partnership with the state of Wyoming and an expansion to the neighboring states of Idaho and Montana.”
