What could go wrong with relocating Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem grizzly bears, which have little fear of humans to one of the most densely populated states in the U.S.?
Well, California is more than considering bringing g-bears back to the west coast and while there is no information on exactly where the bears would be placed (if California can even procure them, Wyoming has already said NO), a safe bet would be that it will be someplace where the only folks affected by such a reckless decision will be agricultural producers and rural residents. Shocker!
Senate Bill 1305 is exploring the feasibility of grizzly bear reintroduction to California and would require a “roadmap” detailing the effort by June 30, 2028.
Honestly, I’m not surprised by this plan. There is an epidemic of apex predator worship running amok in places like California and Colorado and the goal is NOT balancing ecosystems or actual “rewilding”. The goal is to eliminate hunting by all means necessary including the extirpation of game animals like deer and elk, via predator reintroduction.
We have seen this across the West and the upper Great Lakes with wolves and I’ve of course the circus down in Colorado.
I used to think that apex predator reintroduction and protection was just misplaced sentiment. I don’t anymore and fully understand that it’s a play to end hunting and eventually gun ownership across the board.
Whatever the outcome in California with grizzlies, sportsmen and our grand traditions of hunting, trapping and fishing are under direct attack and must remain vigilant, engaged and involved if we are to save the outdoor pursuits we love and do what’s best for the wildlife we are charged to steward.
I’d love to hear your opinion about grizzlies in California.

All the aggressive “problem bears” need to be relocated to Sacramento. Take as many as you need, we’re overloaded with Grizzlies.
I sat “YES” to grizzly bears in California!!
Give them to them but put them near cities where all the “animal lovers” can see them first hand.
CA doesn’t allow the control of mountain lion populations and black bears are moving into urban areas, are the #1 cause of fawn mortality and their population has exploded to 4 or 5 times the carrying capacity for black bears. Wildlife management by emotion and far left groups.
You can not fix stupidity
I think reintroduction of Grizzly Bears to California is a Great idea they can start with the first bunch in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco the next bunch in Sacramento near the Rivers it would be best around stealhead season. May be introduction of the Jaguars in Southern California and Grizzlies all the way up to Portland Oregon.
The best option is drop Grizzly into the 3 areas in California with Tule Elk !! Then in only a few years can wipe out all the Tule which is great cause it will be 1 less big game animal for a Super Slam?
This is absolutely ridiculous. I can see it happening in my communist-lesbian run Oregon next!
Load up 100s or 1000s of Grizzlies to LA, Sacramento, areas near any politicians home and the southern border with MX and many of the rest of our problems will quickly disappear. And quite a few for Boulder and Denver would be a good start too.
I have been saying for a long time now, that the end game is to reduce or eliminate huntable species to the point that hunting is eliminated. When hunting is eliminated, people would be more accepting of relinquishing their firearms, stop buying hunting equipment and put the hunting industry out of business. With the industry out of business, money no longer flows to lobbyists and politicians that support the outdoor sports. Finally, total confiscation of firearms.
People need to wake up to the fact that this has nothing to do with the environment or balancing nature.
Managing wildlife, nature and climate by emotion never works.
