By now I’m sure you’ve heard that Utah Senator Mike Lee pulled the public land sale language out of the Big Beautiful Bill. This was 100% because of your voice, that you made heard loud and clear. To his credit, Senator Lee listened and pulled the language but I’d bet my next paycheck that this fight is not over. The sale of American’s greatest asset, our public lands, will rear its ugly head again and when it does we need to roundly reject it once again.
Stay Educated & Informed
Staying vigilant is key as is keeping yourself educated and informed of the processes of parliamentary procedure and how our system of government works. Ike Eastman sat down with David Willms for a second podcast on the inner workings of this very thing and I’d encourage you to give that a listen and read Mr. Willms blog on the topic so you can be as informed as possible when this fight once again is before us.
Flex Your Voting Muscle
The best way to protect our public lands, besides being outspoken advocates, is to flex your muscle at the ballot box. I for one will remember how my State’s elected officials were unwilling to budge on the issue of public land sales. We must keep score on issues such as this so when we go to the polls we can make educated decisions when casting our votes. Now, there are a great many issues facing our country, as has always been the case, and each of us must decide what matters most and examine how our elected officials measure up on those issues.
Get Out And Enjoy!
Now that the sale of our public lands is in the rearview mirror, for now, it’s time to get out and enjoy them this Independence Day weekend! Go camping, scouting, fishing, shooting or do some off-roading and while you do, take a moment to relish in the treasure public land represents and marvel at this uniquely American heritage. Oh, and while you’re enjoying those lands, take a minute to leave them better than you found them. Pick up some litter, make sure you douse your fires and encourage others to do the same. Our public lands deserve the best stewardship we can give them; it’s our duty and responsibility to preserve them for future generations both politically and physically.
Happy Independence Day!
